A FOOD TRADITION
Balearic Cuisine
Balearic cuisine encompasses the food traditions of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, shaped by Mediterranean agriculture, island fishing and historical Catalan connections. Pork, seafood, lamb, vegetables, almonds, bread, olive oil and local herbs are widely used, with baking, braising, grilling and preserving prominent. Tumbet layers fried or baked vegetables with tomato; caldereta de langosta is a Menorcan lobster stew; and sobrasada is a soft, paprika-seasoned cured sausage. Ensaimada and other baked goods demonstrate the islands’ distinctive pastry culture.
