A FOOD TRADITION
Cuban Chinese Cuisine
Cuban Chinese cuisine developed through Chinese migration, especially in Havana’s historic Chinatown, and through long interaction with the wider Cuban food system. It combines Cantonese-influenced stir-frying, steaming, noodle preparation, and stock-making with local rice, pork, plantains, seafood, and seasonings. The tradition is associated with family cooking and Chinese-Cuban restaurants, while its forms vary across generations and communities. Recognizable examples include arroz frito cubano, tallarines fritos, and sopa china with noodles, meat, and vegetables. It should be understood as a hybrid Cuban tradition rather than as a simple export of mainland Chinese regional cuisine.
