A FOOD TRADITION
Gulf Arab Cuisine
Gulf Arab cuisine is a shared coastal and desert tradition extending across the Arabian Peninsula, including communities in the UAE. It overlaps with Emirati cooking but provides a wider regional context for dishes and techniques shaped by pearling, fishing, trade, date cultivation, and pastoral life. Rice, dates, wheat, fish, shellfish, camel or goat meat, dried limes, cardamom, saffron, and spice blends are common. Characteristic methods include slow simmering, grilling, drying, salting, and cooking rice with seasoned broths. Examples include machboos, harees, and thareed, each appearing in locally varied forms across the Gulf.
