A FOOD TRADITION
Indian Cuisine
Indian cuisine forms a prominent cultural cooking tradition in Bahrain through established South Asian communities and family, workplace and festival foodways. Its local expression is diverse rather than uniform, drawing on rice, wheat, lentils, vegetables, dairy, seafood, poultry and extensive spice blends. Common techniques include tempering spices in oil, tandoor or griddle cooking, pressure-cooking legumes, slow braising and producing layered rice dishes. Examples familiar within Indian culinary practice include biryani, dosa and samosa, while regional home styles may differ substantially in seasoning, breads and use of coconut or tamarind. This is a shared Indian tradition with local Gulf adaptations, not a claim that these dishes originated in Bahrain.
