Lisa Bryan’s selected stovetop oatmeal simmers rolled oats in water with kosher salt, rests the same oats off the heat and finishes with her offered apple, pecan, cinnamon and maple-syrup topping.
About oatmeal
Research draft based on the references below. These notes describe particular recipes and presentations; ingredient connections are still being reviewed.
Lisa Bryan’s oatmeal uses rolled oats rather than the separately discussed steel-cut or quick-cooking types. This account selects her stovetop preparation and the offered apple-cinnamon topping.
Water and kosher salt are brought to a boil before the oats join. The heat is lowered and the mixture simmers with occasional stirring.
The pan is taken off the heat, covered and rested so that the same oats absorb more liquid. A little more of the selected water can be stirred in if the mixture becomes too dry.
Diced apple, chopped pecans, cinnamon and maple syrup form the complete selected topping. The author describes a creamy, hearty oatmeal and a warm finished bowl.
Milk-based cooking, microwave and slow-cooker methods, and her other sweet or savoury toppings are separate choices. They are not additional ingredients in this selected water-cooked apple-cinnamon preparation.
