Blackberry
Dark soft fruit of the bramble, eaten fresh or cooked.

About Blackberry
Blackberry is the soft, dark fruit of a bramble, made up of many small drupelets clustered around a central core. It is eaten fresh and used in pies, crumbles, jams, sauces, drinks, and other cooked preparations. Cultivars differ in size, colour, sweetness, acidity, and firmness.
Ripe blackberries are commonly juicy, sweet-tart, and aromatic, with small seeds that may be noticeable when eaten whole. Some varieties are softer and more delicate, while others are firmer and less acidic. Cooking releases their juice, deepens their colour, and softens the drupelets, although strained preparations remove most seeds and solids.
Fresh berries range from reddish-purple when underripe to deep purple-black when ripe, and they are sold loose, packaged, frozen, or preserved. They can be eaten whole after washing, folded into batters, simmered into sauces, or crushed and strained for jellies. Freezing softens the fruit after thawing but preserves its characteristic flavour.

Portions & preparation
Match the reference to fresh blackberry fruit, including whether the edible portion is whole berries or a prepared puree. Frozen, cooked, dried, sweetened, strained, or canned forms differ from fresh fruit. Portion and preparation matter when comparing berries incorporated into desserts, sauces, or drinks.
Compare the right form: Reference should match fresh blackberry fruit and the edible whole-berry portion, or clearly identified frozen, cooked, dried, or pureed form.
Diet considerations
Blackberries are plant-derived bramble fruit. Plain fresh or frozen berries fit plant-based diets, while cream, dairy, gelatin, honey, coatings, or cereal-based desserts change compatibility. Their carbohydrate pattern is portion-dependent and can differ substantially in dried, sweetened, juiced, strained, or preserve forms.
