A FOOD TRADITION

Eurasian Cuisine

Eurasian cuisine in Singapore represents the foodways of communities with mixed European and Asian heritage, particularly traditions associated with Kristang and related Straits Eurasian families. It combines European techniques and ingredients with Southeast Asian aromatics, chilies, coconut, spices and local produce. Common methods include baking, stewing, braising, grinding spice pastes and preparing festive dishes for family and religious occasions. Examples include devil's curry, sugee cake and Eurasian-style shepherd's pie. The category is culturally distinct from Peranakan cuisine, though both developed through long histories of intermarriage, colonial contact and regional exchange.
