Soy Flour
Flour produced from soybeans.

About Soy Flour
Soy flour is a powder made by milling soybeans, commonly after cleaning and, depending on the product, heating or other treatment. It may be made from whole soybeans or from defatted soybean material, producing products that differ in color, aroma, fat content, and handling.
The powder is generally beige to pale yellow with a characteristic cooked-legume flavor. It is used in baked goods, noodles, mixes, coatings, thickened foods, and other formulations where soybean solids are desired, either as a dry blended ingredient or within a cooked mixture.
Soy flour may be fine or coarse and may be sold as full-fat, low-fat, or defatted flour. Roasted soybean flour is a distinct roasted product with a deeper aroma and should not automatically be treated as interchangeable with untreated soy flour. Heating and incorporation can change its aroma, dispersion, and texture.

Portions & preparation
Identify whether the soy flour is full-fat, defatted, toasted, roasted, or otherwise processed, and use the stated flour particle form. It may be eaten as an ingredient rather than alone. Baking, blending with wheat or other cereals, and adding sweeteners or fats change the recipe’s represented portion.
Compare the right form: Match the reference to soy flour made from the specified soybean preparation, such as full-fat, defatted, toasted, or roasted flour.
Diet considerations
Soy flour is plant-derived and made from soybeans. Plain flour suits plant-based recipes, but baked products may add eggs, dairy, honey, fats, or other animal ingredients. Wheat or other cereal flours may be blended with it, and the amount used in a recipe determines the resulting cereal and carbohydrate pattern.
