Tofu
Soybean curd made from coagulated soy milk.

About Tofu
Tofu is a set soybean curd made by coagulating soy milk and pressing the resulting curds into blocks or other shapes. It is commonly sliced, cubed, crumbled, fried, grilled, simmered, or blended into savoury and sweet preparations.
Tofu has a mild soybean flavour that readily takes on marinades, broths, sauces, and seasonings. Its texture ranges from silken and custard-like to soft, medium, firm, or extra-firm, depending on coagulation, pressing, and water content.
Tofu is usually white to pale cream and may be sold plain in textures from silken to extra-firm. Fresh tofu can be cut, crumbled, or cooked directly; smoked, flavoured, and fermented forms are distinct products whose processing changes colour, flavour, and texture.

Portions & preparation
Identify firm, soft, silken, dried, smoked, or frozen tofu and whether it is pressed, marinated, fried, or baked. Reference the edible soybean curd in its stated form, while prepared dishes should include coatings, oil, sauces, and accompanying ingredients.
Compare the right form: Match references to the exact tofu texture and processing—silken, soft, firm, dried, smoked, frozen, fried, or baked—with preparation details.
Diet considerations
Tofu is a plant-derived soybean product. Plain tofu differs from versions containing seasonings, wheat-based coatings, dairy, egg, meat, or sweet sauces. Portion and accompanying rice, noodles, breading, or vegetables shape the dish’s carbohydrate pattern; blended or flavored products require recipe review.
